Interjectional Exercises (2019), solo performance, 25:00
![]()
Interjectional Exercises explores how political and philosophical separations between verbal and non-verbal communication have defined personhood in the West. Delivered via spoken English, British Sign Language, visual aids and a variety of props, the performance is underpinned by an intertextual script which weaves together historical anecdotes about the cultural authority of speech. The form this takes is that of a lecture-pep-talk-sing-a-long-sermon in 6 acts, from Anne Carson to Anna O, via The Supremes. Commissioned by Manifest Arts.
