“Two of Greater Manchester’s most inventive artists.” - Creative Tourist

Rowland’s Leaving is an ongoing shared practice I have with artist Darren Nixon. Since 2022 we have built a reputation for our playful, shape-shifting, participatory events and installations which often hinge on an unusual exchange between artist and audience.

Our recent projects include Host, developed in residence during the 2024 Venice Biennale for which we formed a fake band and performed hard techno cover versions of songs which addressed the conflicted emotions we felt in visiting a city which is being destroyed by mass tourism. This performance was restaged in Stockport at our event The Same Deep Water as You, for which we invited 14 other artists to join us in reenacting, reimagining and invoking memories of their own past performances. In 2023 we debuted our ongoing event series 100 Videos at Bath House Galleries, Huddersfield, during which 100 of our videos are displayed on 100 audience members’ phones for 100 minutes, testing the limits of communal resource sharing.
